After the Rain…

She sensed by her mom’s quiet disposition, she’d had a long day. It was the end of spring, the days were getting longer and the rain had finally stopped. With a grin, she handed her mom her walking shoes and soon they headed out the door. Standing on the dock overlooking the water, Mom closed her eyes and took in a deep breath of fresh air. On the path they’d past rows of wild lily of the valley and their sweet scent still danced in the air. A boat passed by and the water began to ripple until at last they could hear it slap up against the dock and nearby rocky shore. A chickadee was singing in the nearby trees.

With a gentle nudge of her elbow, Mom broke the silence:

“Thanks, kiddo… just what I needed.”
