It was early summer. They’d spent the morning in the garden, heading in for lunch to beat the afternoon heat. As they finished lunch, Katy suddenly remembered that she’d made grapefruit Granita. They’d fallen in love with the refreshing sweet frozen desert on a visit to Italy.

“I almost forgot! I have a surprise for you…I’ll be right back.”

The fresh, tangy smell of grapefruit entered the room first, as she came back from the kitchen holding a tray with two large carved out grapefruits heaped with light pink slushy ice.
